Education and Training
Dr. Soares is licensed to practice medicine in Vermont. He is certified to practice General Ophthalmology (including cataract surgery) and Pediatric Ophthalmology.
The American Board of Ophthalmology certified Dr. Soares to practice ophthalmology in 1994. The board requires recertification every 10 years and Dr. Soares was recertified in 2004 and 2014.
Dr. Soares received his Bachelor of Science degree from Tufts University, Medford, Massachusetts in 1982. He researched Rota virus (a significant cause of infant mortality in third world countries) at Baylor College of Medicine from 1982-1984. He earned his medical degree from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, Lubbock, Texas in 1988. He completed his Internship at Emmanuel Hospital, Portland, Oregon in 1989. In 1992 he completed his Ophthalmology residency at Hermann Eye Center, Houston, Texas. The following year he completed his Pediatric Ophthalmology Fellowship at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, Cincinnati, Ohio.
In 1993 Dr. Soares moved to Randolph, Vermont to start his career. He worked in Randolph as a comprehensive ophthalmologist employed by Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center until 2007.
In May of 2007 Dr. Soares started his own private practice in eye care, Soares Ocular Surgery, P.C. In 2011 the practice moved to its own office building to better serve patients. Located at 124 Meadow Lane in Randolph, the building provides ample space and allows Dr.Soares to more efficiently and effectively provide eye care for an expanding patient population. The larger office accommodates the most advanced equipment to ensure the best eye care possible.
Dr. Soares sees up to 30 patients a day in his clinic and operates on 6-10 cataract patients a week and 6-10 strabismus patients a month. Since 1993 he has provided thousands of patients with improved vision from cataract surgery. He has helped hundreds of children and adults achieve single vision and straight eyes following strabismus surgery to align their eyes.
From 2014 - 2017, Dr. Soares provided care for veterans at the White River Junction VA.
